The objective of the Scheduled Caste Development Department is
to achieve socio-economic-educational development and empowerment of
the marginalized and underprivileged scheduled caste population in the
State and to wipe out socio-economic inequalities in the society and
preservation of their culture.
The mission of the Scheduled Caste Development Department is to
improve standard of living of Scheduled Caste population by conserving
their culture,to preserve the traditional knowledge scheduled caste
population of the State, to achieve total literacy among Scheduled Caste, to
ensuring land, house and livelihood, to provide total health care,to provide
qualitative education, to provide vocational skill training for providing more
employment, to achieve sustainable economic development and social
empowerment
There are 44 Industrial Training Institutes (ITI)in Kerala under
Scheduled Castes Development Department, which Provide Vocational
Training in 11 different Trades. The objective of Industrial Training
Institutes under Scheduled Caste Development Department Kerala is
imparting skill based training to the unemployed Scheduled Caste youths of
the State through a network of 44 SCDD Industrial Training Institutes under
Craftsman Training Scheme (NCVT). Engineering & Non-Engineering trade
courses of one and two years duration are being run in these institutes.
The mission of the Scheduled Caste Development Department
Industrial Training Institutes are to promote vocational training in the State
and to reduce unemployment among the educated Scheduled Caste youth
by providing them skill/technical training for employment/self-employment.
Skilled Workers are an essential input for industrialization, modernization
and promotion of trade and business. The department, keeping in view of
the above mentioned objectives is imparting training under various
schemes. The main aim is to achieve rapid & inclusive growth through :-
- Enhancing individual's employability (wage/self-employment) and ability to adapt to changing technologies & labour market demands.
- Improving productivity.
- Strengthening the competitiveness of the country.
- Attracting investment in skill development.
